This Course introduces students to the fast-paced, creative world of beauty and salon services in a real, licensed cosmetology school while earning college-level credit. Students focus on foundational skills including salon safety, hair science, haircutting and styling, along with essential salon business practices that prepare them for professional success in the beauty industry.

Spring coursework builds foundational skills and expands students’ hands-on experience into advanced beauty services. Students develop skills in nail care, manicures and pedicures, artificial nail enhancements, skincare techniques, makeup application, waxing, and more, continuing to refine their creativity while preparing for future careers in cosmetology.

This advanced cosmetology course focuses on hands-on experience in a licensed cosmetology school, giving students the opportunity to build on their foundational
skills and prepare for careers in the beauty industry. Students will practice advanced techniques in haircutting and styling for both men and women, learn chemical relaxing and texturizing, and explore hair color theory along with a variety of application methods including foiling. Salon business concepts are also included to support future professional success. Students will continue to develop their creativity, confidence, and technical expertise as they progress in their cosmetology training.

The Child Development Associate (CDA) was created in response to the need for early childhood professionals to master the knowledge and skills needed to create effective learning environments for children. The CDA is an accepted credential for work as a teacher, assistant teacher, or aide in child care centers and preschools. This CDA Prep course is designed to provide the information needed to effectively care for and educate young children. The course is appropriate for students who intend to pursue advanced study in early childhood education or a related discipline and for those who will seek employment or career advancement upon completion of the program. The 120 hours of education moves students forward in the process of earning the Child Development Associate (CDA) national credential through the Council for Professional Recognition. Curriculum covers eight CDA subject areas which include six competency standards and thirteen functional areas.

This course is designed for students who plan to pursue advanced study in early childhood education or related fields, as well as those seeking immediate
employment or career advancement in early learning settings. Building on foundational skills, students complete additional coursework and guided experiences
that strengthen professional practice and deepen understanding of child development. A key focus of the course is continued development and completion of the
professional portfolio required for the nationally recognized Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.

Provides an interactive environment for students to identify their motivation and opportunities for personal growth, engage in academic and career decision making, and explore and utilize campus resources and services. Explore the multifaceted role of information and technology in education, emphasizing the critical social, ethical and legal considerations involved. Learn to advocate for the safe and responsible use of digital resources, mastering effective documentation practices and respectful engagement on social media. Students engage in hands-on experiences with interactive software and instructional design principles and create dynamic lesson plans that elevate learning and assessment strategies. Students gain proficiency with current and emerging technologies and feel empowered to communicate with stakeholders in the K-12 environment while continually enhancing their tech skills.

This course provides an overview of the criminal justice system. Topics include the historical development of law enforcement as well as an exploration of the
components of the criminal justice system and the functions, jurisdictions, and interrelationships of various law enforcement agencies with emphasis on the United States Criminal Justice System. An introduction to the three main components of the CJ System is provided: Police, Courts, and Corrections.

This course examines the interaction of peace officers with individuals/groups in communities – with a focus on minority groups and the application of community-
oriented policing principles. This course meets the specific MN POST learning objectives for pre-service law enforcement students including community-oriented
policing philosophy, crime prevention, cultural diversity, bias motivated crime and the proper police response, domestic abuse and assault mandates, ethics, police professionalism, and the use of discretion by the police.

This course is a sociological analysis of corrections and punishment in modern society. The course content explores the sentencing of offenders, the prison system, community-based corrections(including probation & parole), alternatives to incarceration and the death penalty. 

This course provides an overview of theories of delinquency and the Juvenile Justice System. Special emphasis will be on Minnesota Statutes, Rules of Juvenile Court, and Supreme Court cases which mandate how the Juvenile Justice System works in Minnesota. This course meets specific POST-learning objectives for pre-
service law enforcement students to understand what police officers are mandated to do when juveniles are victims of offenders, and how those laws are different from
the adult criminal justice system.

This course provides a comprehensive examination of the theories, methods, and techniques used in modern crime scene investigation. Students will learn to apply
scientific and systematic approaches to the recognition, documentation, collection, preservation, and analysis of physical evidence. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, accuracy, and maintaining the integrity of the investigative process from the crime scene to the courtroom.
