Field Trips & Off-Campus Outings

A Field Trip is defined as a unique, goal-based excursion for students to study something first-hand, such as traveling to a museum, play, or zoo. Field trips are infrequent, but an essential community-based learning opportunity.

How to request a field trip
PLEASE NOTE: It is the responsibility of the Trip Organizer to be mindful of their Field Trip planning timelines.
The timelines included in the brackets are suggestions for submitting relevant required materials.
[3-5 Business Days] - Field Trips/Off-Campus Outings requiring only bus or van transportation
[10+ Business Days] - Field Trips/Off-Campus Outings requiring event ticket purchase

It is the responsibility of the Trip Organizer to also be mindful of incorporating permission slip return due dates into their Field Trip planning timelines.
Recommended due date for parent/guardian return of permission slips is 5 business days from distribution.

A Co-Curricular Overnight Field Trip is similar to a field trip, but requiring overnight accommodations for a multi-day experience. This type of trip is exclusive to SWMetro opportunities within SkillsUSA, HOSA, MAAP Stars, and other student organizations participating in state, regional, or national competitions and events.

How to request a co-curricular overnight field trip

[15+ Business Days] - Co-Curricular Overnight Field Trips requiring airfare, hotel accommodations, and/or event ticket purchase

An Off-Campus Outing is defined as a regular integrated part of programming which requires students to leave SWMetro campuses to participate in community-based activities relevant to the curriculum and/or IEPs. These trips can be routinely scheduled throughout a school year and often include trips to the local library, community center, food shelf, etc.
